Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t start off with these numbers but with a little bit of focus on building my private student base, it's now on autopilot.
The following are the secrets to my success and I’ve focused on the things you can do right now to create your own income stream. It’s not rocket science, it just works.
Hi, I’m Will, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt who has been training for 11 years. I now make a living through BJJ. I love that I get paid to train and teach and make a good living doing this.
It wasn't always that easy though. In fact, when I first started coaching I got paid $675 per week and had zero private lessons. I worked for a pub in the morning unloading kegs of beer, just so I could make enough to live and teach people what I love - Jiu-Jitsu.
But everything changed when I sold my first private lesson! Since then I have 10x my private lessons income and now do it for other BJJ Coaches with my $100K Coach System. I don’t need to work another job or worry about money now.
I put together this playbook to share what I did to book more private lessons and make extra money as a BJJ coach.
Today things are very different. Here are my sales from Feb using some simple actions you can take.

Private coaching is different from being a Coach in class. So treat it differently. You are basically running your own business that is separate from the gym.
Have a visible private lesson offer that explains how you work. Use a website.
Give students an easy way to pay and book more private lessons. Use online payments.
Promote weekly (or daily)! Use social media.
How to 10x your private lesson income in 6 steps
Step 1: Mindset
Get in the mindset of building up your private coaching business. Every student is a lead. This applies if you're a gym owner as well. Treat your private lessons as a separate side hustle that you want to grow.
Step 2: Connect with Conversations
Build rapport with students and start conversations in the gym and on social media about their Jiu-Jitsu journey and what their goals are.
DON’T just post on Facebook or Instagram that you sell private lessons.
DO build a conversation first and find out what they are struggling with and their goals. Then let them know how you can help. Get them sliding into your DM’s.
Step 3: Tell them what you do
Have your own website that is built specifically for promoting your private lessons and coaching offers.
Remember this is different to your role as a Coach in class. Describe how you work with each student and what the results look like. If you want to add variety in your private lessons you can download my free Private Lesson Resources.
You can sign up to websites like Wix and Squarespace to build your website. They average $35 per month when you add everything you need. Once you're done stick the URL (website link) in your social media bio’s. That way students can check it out and you get visibility.

Step 4: Make it easy to pay
Give students an easy way to pay. When I allowed students to pay with a credit or debit card, I started billing monthly private lessons subscriptions on autopilot. This is the secret to success and consistent income. It makes students commit to their sessions and keeps your calendar full. It definitely outperforms taking cash and most students prefer it!
Warning. If you build your own website with WIX or Squarespace they can take up to 9% transaction fee plus you will pay a payment processing fee which ranges from 1.75% to 2.9% + 30cents depending on where you are based and the card your customer uses. You may also need some help setting payments up. I certainly did when I first did it!
The Cheaper, Simpler option: Instead of using a website payment system, use the $100K Coach System and get a flat transaction fee of 10%. We cover the payment processing fees as well (we use Stripe). You get your own Coach Page and cheaper fees. Another easy win.

Step 5: Let them book online
Let students book online. This may sound funny but students and parents sometimes find it daunting to speak to their coach. If they can book online that gives them options and they can do it whenever they like. Setup a FREE Calendly account to manage your availability online. At a minimum, stick this in your social media bios.
The Simpler Option: If you use the $100K Coach System, we include your Calendly link on your coach page. Whenever someone buys a private lesson, they book a time online. You will receive a booking confirmation and payment confirmation.

Step 6: Promote, Promote, Promote
How do people buy things they don’t know about? They don’t! Leverage your social media and start posting about your private coaching.
DO NOT post a photo saying you offer private lessons and to “DM or Text Me” if you’re interested. That’s what everyone does.
You want them sliding into your DM’s. Be creative. Try posts that start a conversation and allow you to express how you can help. Or even just ask a question like “What are you working on right now?” The main thing is you want to start a conversation and it will become obvious how you can help.
