How to progress your Jiu-Jitsu with 5 minutes per week

If you are feeling stuck or lost in your Jiu-Jitsu journey . . . then you need to make a change. Good news it only takes 5 minutes a week.

For the last year we have been helping over 2500 students own their Jiu-Jitsu Journey. From White Belts to Black Belts.

Students who use the Journey Dashboard as of September 04 2024

When we started the BJJ Project we asked one question: why do people quit Jiu-Jitsu?

We found most people quit because progress is slow. People don’t understand the basics or the journey. They get hurt, overwhelmed, frustrated and stuck. That’s why they give up.

So we made the Journey Dashboard. And students love it:

Let me explain how

Progress is easy with a plan.

Step 1) Think about your Jiu-Jitsu

Note: You can’t progress if you don’t know where to start or where you need to go. You need a map and a sense of direction. We’ve made it easy to map your Jiu-Jitsu and narrow your focus for training to see the best results. It only takes 5 minutes.

Step 2) Start with your biggest weakness

Note: Most of the time people focus on too many things. A new submission, a takedown or a sweep. If you want to progress focus on your biggest fundamental weakness. If you keep getting stuck in side control start there. Learn to survive and escape. We use the below graph to help make fast progress.

Step 3) Get Help

Note: A super simple way is ask your coach. They are there to help. But if you want to do more our Journey Dashboard gives you help videos around your weaknesses so you can start improving today. Videos are 3-5 minutes long. You just need watch one a week to improve.

Step 4) Commit to progress with a plan

Note: You need to commit. Showing up to classes is important. But if you’re reading this you’re probably not progressing at the rate you want. Commit to a plan that is personalised for you. You will get the biggest results. Try the Journey Dashboard and get everything you need for progress in one place. Plus we keep you accountable!

Warning . . .

The Journey Dashboard only works for students who are committed to making progress. If you cannot spare 5 minutes a week to focus on your Jiu-Jitsu off the mats then do not continue reading.

We’ve helped plenty of people start progressing with just 5 minutes a week

“I don’t know where to start?”

Do you ever feel like you want to get better at Jiu-Jitsu but don’t where to start? There’s too much content out there on Youtube, Instagram and Reddit.

The Solution:

START WITH SURVIVAL. If you can’t get submitted in any bad positions you become a real nightmare. The Journey Dashboard starts with survival then escapes, control, guard, guard passing, submissions and standing.

“I don’t feel like I am progressing in my Jiu-Jitsu.”

Does this sound familiar? You attend 3-4 classes a week and learn 10 new techniques but still feel like you are in the same place. Months go by and your still seeing the same results in your sparring.

The Solution:

GET FOCUSED. More often than not, 1 or 2 things will make the biggest difference. Set a baseline with our Journey Score. Target your weaknesses with our Help Videos from our Coaches. Improving your weaknesses is the fastest way to see progress.

“I don’t feel like my coach pays attention to my Jiu-Jitsu.”

The Solution:

OWN YOUR JIU-JITSU JOURNEY. Coaches are responsible for the clubs overall Jiu-Jitsu. They have structured curriculums. One week it’s armbars and the other it’s halfguard. Don’t wait weeks or months until they show what you need. Use the help video from our Coaches to get the concepts and techniques you need to progress today.
