Surviving Knee on Belly
Surviving knee on belly is about making a connection to the knee and shrimping backwards so their knee drops to the floor. From there you deny the mount transition and create escapes — even against strikes.
1. Objectives & Mechanics
Connect to the knee and shrimp backwards. When they start from a knee ride (across the hips), get your arms in the right position, get into the same eyeline and play with their base by walking your legs away.
2. Execution & Awareness — common reactions
Your partner is trying to get to mount, especially while you defend submissions. When they step over, hip escape and build a frame — they can't sit flat on the mount and will be off-balanced; use it to escape to your feet. Against strikes: close the space — build a frame, turn into your partner and curl underneath their base. They can't strike you there, and you can come up for a sweep.
3. How to practice
Partner starts knee-on-sternum: connect and shrimp until their knee drops. Let them hunt the far-arm underhook: connect and shrimp back. From knee ride: arms right, same eyeline, walk your legs to disturb base. Practise the hip-escape counter to the mount transition, and the curl-under escape against punches.
